2019 Player Rankings (Minnesota)

2019 Top 20 (All rankings are based on the observations FCH has made based on games watched, film, highlights, and other research, and are the personal opinions of FCH. Players are ranked as college prospects, not necessarily on high school production. It is recognized that all of these players are extremely talented, and that there are many more talented players not in these rankings.)

1. Matthew Hurt- 6'9 2019 SF, Rochester John Marshall, D1 Minnesota
One of the top players in Minnesota state history, Matthew Hurt is one of the most desired recruits in the country. The versatile forward can do a little bit of everything on the court on both ends. On offense he utilizes a deadly three point shot, combined with a soft touch around the rim. Matthew is a match-up nightmare, as he has the ability to post of smaller players, and is quick enough to get by bigger defenders. Hurt used this unique skill set to put up astronomical numbers for Rochester John Marshall, leading them to a 26-3 record. Matthew averaged 33.9 ppg, 15 rpg, 3.6 apg, and 3.9 bpg. Barring injury, Matthew will become one of the all time leading scorers in state history next season, as he enters his senior year with 2,751 points to go along with 1,105 career rebounds. On the AAU circuit, Hurt and D1 Minnesota have become one of the top 17U teams in the country, with Matthew on the Adidas Gauntlet. When it comes time to make his college decision, Matthew will have his choice of schools from across the country.

2. Zeke Nnaji- 6'11 2019 PF, Hopkins, D1 Minnesota
Zeke Nnaji is a player who has been skyrocketing on the national recruiting scene as of late, thanks to a strong junior season, and an impressive spring season with D1 Minnesota. In just a few months, Zeke went from a solid top 200 national player, to a top 50 caliber recruit with 4 star status. Zeke was also impressive enough to earn an invitation to the USA u17 team tryouts. Possibly still growing, Zeke now stands at 6'11, an impressive height for a power forward. Nnaji is an impressive athlete for his height, with the ability to throw down powerful dunks in transition. He also has a good jumpshot, both from the midrange and from three point range. This combination of size, skill, and athleticism made for a junior season averaging 19.4 ppg for a stacked Hopkins squad. With Zeke's recruitment picking up, he will be an exciting prospect to watch during his senior season.

3. Tyrell Terry- 6'2 2019 PG, DeLaSalle, D1 Minnesota
The silky smooth floor general became a popular recruit across the country over his junior season. Recently committing to Stanford, Tyrell also held offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Xavier, Butler, and many more. A 4.0 student in the classroom, Tyrell is a smart player on the court, possessing a high basketball IQ. He runs the point guard spot with poise and pace. He likes to push the tempo off of missed shots and turnovers, but knows when to slow it down and run a halfcourt set. Terry has good handles, a lethal pull-up midrange, and the ability the create shots for his teammates. Tyrell averaged 16.8 ppg, 6 apg, and 4.6 rpg for a DeLaSalle squad that finished third place at the state tournament. With the loss of a few key players, Tyrell will take on an increased workload in an attempt to bring another state title to DeLaSalle.

4. Tyler Wahl- 6'7 2019 SF, Lakeville North, D1 Minnesota
Once thought of as a mid-major division one prospect, Tyler Wahl has turned into one of the most sought after players in the midwest. Tyler is a player who can play the 1-4 on the court, with his combination of size, skill, and athleticism. For Lakeville North, Tyler started off the season playing as a forward, but transitioned into a point guard towards the end of the season. He possesses good all around skills for his height, and as a point guard has the ability to see over the defense and find his open teammates to score. Tyler averaged 17.8 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 5.6 apg, and 2.5 spg to lead Lakeville North to a 27-5 record. College coaches that have offered Tyler are impressed by his versatility and toughness on the court, and after improving so much over his junior season, the sky is the limit for Tyler Wahl.

5. Robert Jones- 6'10 2019 C, Prior Lake, D1 Minnesota
A defensive specialist, Robert has surged onto the radar of high major programs as of late. Running with D1 Minnesota, one of the top AAU teams in the country, Robert has impressed college coaches across the country. With Prior Lake, Robert teamed with Dawson Garcia to form one of the most formidable front courts in the state, leading the Lakers to a 21-5 record. Robert used a developing offensive skill set to average 13.5 ppg, including a season high 28 in a win over Lakeville South. He can finish with both hands around the rim, and elevates quickly under the hoop for dunks. Defensively, he is skilled at putting a body on a man and attacking the ball on his rebounds. Look for Robert to continue his dominance on the defensive end as a senior, as well as showing off an improved offensive game for Prior Lake.

6. David Roddy- 6'5 2019 PF, Breck, Howard Pulley
The talented two sport athlete from Breck School is a big bodied, explosive power forward. Showing flashes of a Charles Barkley type forward, Roddy is short for his position, but his strength and explosiveness allow him to dominate taller opponents. Roddy started on the talented Howard Pulley 17's last season, and has taken over as their leading scorer this season. For Breck, Roddy used his athleticism and finishing ability to average 25.4 ppg, 12.4 rpg, and 5 apg, leading his team in all major statistical categories. A star quarterback on the football field, Roddy uses his passing ability on the basketball court to deliver precise passes to set his teammates up to score. Most impressive for Roddy is how athletic he is for someone his size, running like a gazelle and able to explode quickly off of two feet to throw down powerful dunks. Roddy will have a decision to make regarding which sport he will play in college, but for now expect Roddy to dominate Minnesota high school basketball for one more year.

7. Courtney Brown Jr.- 6'6 2019 SF, East Ridge, Howard Pulley
An athletic wing prospect, Courtney Brown can finish at the rim, and hit the outside jumper. Courtney is a very talented scorer, and is proving that on the EYBL Circuit, averaging 12.4 ppg while being among the league leaders in 3P% at 40%. For East Ridge, Courtney has the ability to take over any game on the offensive end, and is a match-up nightmare. He averaged 21 ppg for a talented East Ridge squad, including games of 39 and 38 points. Courtney gets great elevation on not only his mid-range shot, but also on his three pointers. This elevation allows him to easily get his shots up over defenders without having to change his form. Around the rim, Courtney can explode off of two feet to throw down some impressive dunks. With four returning starters from a talented squad last year, Courtney will attempt to lead East Ridge to the state tournament as a senior.

8. Jamison Battle- 6'7 2019 SF, DeLaSalle, D1 Minnesota
One of the top three point shooters in the 2019 class, Jamison has a smooth left handed shot from outside. Jamison uses this shot to stretch opposing defenses, opening up space for his teammates on offense. Leave him open and he'll hit the shot, but he also has the ability to drive and finish at the rim if you play him too tight. He also utilizes a quality pump-fake in catch and shoot situations, constantly getting defenders to over-commit. Jamison used his smooth stroke to average 13.8 ppg and 5 rpg on a team that featured multiple high major offered players. Battle has been playing with a nationally ranked AAU program in D1 Minnesota, and has been gaining looks from division one schools across the midwest. With Gabe Kalscheur graduated, Jamison will look to increase his scoring numbers in a chase for a AAA state title.

9. Isaac Fink- 6'4 2019 SG, Springfield, Minnesota Comets
Isaac Fink is a player who has been putting up huge numbers for Springfield High School. Fink is a solid athlete with good size, and can play both guard spots. He possesses range from well beyond the three point arc, and also has the ability to finish with both hands around the rim. Isaac is also known to have some flair to his game, throwing behind the back and other flashy passes to his teammates with ease. He put up big numbers as a junior, averaging 26.6 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 5.8 apg, and 2.8 spg on one of the top teams in Class A. Isaac will enter his senior season with 2,376 career points, and potential to be a top 10 scorer in Minnesota state history. A talented scorer, Isaac is a scholarship level player who will be a productive player at the next level. He currently holds a handful of quality division two offers.

10. Noah Christensen- 6'8 2019 PF, Breckenridge, Minnesota Comets
Standing at 6'8, Noah Christensen possesses solid size for a power forward at the next level. He is a good shot blocker at the high school level, and has the ability to score the ball inside and out. Averaging 21 ppg and 10 rpg, along with 2 bpg, Noah was a good all around player for Breckenridge. He used his size and production to lead Breckenridge to their second straight state tournament appearance. Playing with a quality AAU program, Noah will look to improve on his game and attempt to lead Breckenridge to a third straight state tournament appearance in his senior season.
College Committed: North Dakota State.

11. Jacob Beeninga- 5'10 2019 PG, Wayzata, Minnesota Fury
Often the smallest player on the court, but always putting on big performances, Jacob Beeninga is a very skilled point guard. He uses his quickness to drive to the hoop, where he has the ability to finish under the presence of larger defenders. He can shoot the three ball, and has a nice floater from mid-range. Jacob averaged 20 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3 apg, and 3 spg to lead Wayzata to a state tournament appearance. He is capable of scoring in bunches, putting up 30+ points in three games as a junior, all against high quality AAAA teams. With Jacob Beeninga running the point, don't count Wayzata out of making a state tournament run next season.
College Committed: Minnesota State-Moorhead.

12. Malik Lamin- 6'9 2019 C, Hillcrest Prep, Grassroots Sizzle
Possibly the most raw prospect in the 2019 class, Malik Lamin is a great rim protector. Standing at 6'9 and weighing about 250 pounds, Malik has the size to protect the hoop from any opposing player. He can stand his ground when facing a post up, and is great at going straight up on his blocks to avoid fouling. On the offensive end, Malik is still developing but has shown signs of scoring ability at times. He has shown solid post footwork, and the ability to get defenders in the air with pump fakes. When Malik gets an opening, he can dunk the ball with enough force to have you questioning if the rim is going to stay attached to the backboard. Malik was the team leader in blocks for DeLaSalle as a junior, and averaged 4.5 ppg and 3 rpg for the Islanders. Lamin will be leaving DeLaSalle and transferring to a new school for his senior season. Whichever school lands Lamin will gain a hard defensive worker, who has the potential to dominate in the post.

13. Dane Zimmer- 6'8 2019 PF, Hopkins, Minnesota Fury
Dane Zimmer is the perfect example of how far effort can get a player. Not always the most athletic or most skilled on the court, Dane has the ability to impact a game based on his energy and the ability to always be in the right place at the right time. The sixth man for a Hopkins squad that lost just two games all season, Dane brought energy, rebounds, and another scoring threat onto the court for the Royals. He excels at sealing his defender for easy drop-step buckets, and is a talented passer out of the post. Dane is also able to hit the open three pointer. He averaged 9 ppg and 6 rpg as a junior, numbers likely to increase next year due to the loss of starting center Joe Hedstrom. Look for Dane to make a big impact in a state run for Hopkins next season.

14. Jack Middleton- 6'4 2019 SF, Edina, Minnesota Fury
A talented scorer, Jack Middleton has range that extends well beyond the three point arc. He is also capable of hitting mid-range jumpers, and is a solid finisher around the rim. Jack is also considered to be one of the top defenders in the state of Minnesota. He averaged 14 ppg for an Edina squad that took down some of the top teams in the state. Playing with a talented Minnesota Fury squad, Jack has been improving his game in the spring, and has received a lot of attention from college coaches.
College Committed: Minnesota- Duluth

15. Tommy Chatman- 6'3 2019 PG, Park Center, Twin Cities Pirates
Tommy Chatman is a player who has been rising up the state rankings as of late. On most teams, Tommy would likely average 20 ppg, but playing on a well rounded Park Center squad he averaged a solid 12 ppg. Tommy also lead his team in assists, proving he can be more than a scorer. Tommy is a talented finisher around the rim, and also has a good pull-up jumper. Tommy will pair with 2020 big man Dain Dainja next season to form one of the most potent guard-forward tandems in the state, in an attempt to make a deep playoff run for Park Center.

16. Jaeden King- 6'5 2019 SG, Cretin-Derham Hall, Howard Pulley
A long and wiry guard, Jaeden King has range well beyond the three point arc, shooting 46% from deep last season. He has a quick release, and can shoot off the catch or dribble. He utilizes a pumpfake well to create space for his shot, and has a nice two footed floater that he utilizes around the free throw line. This skill set allowed for the 6'5 guard to average 16 ppg for the state champion Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. Jaeden's strong junior season garnered him division one interest, as well as many division two offers. As the only returning starter from last year's state champions, Jaeden is primed for a big time senior year.

17. Antwan Kimmons- 6' 2019 PG, Tartan, Howard Pulley
Antwan Kimmons is a lightning quick and explosive point guard. He uses his elite quickness to slash to the hoop, where he is a tough finisher. He is also a talented on-ball defender with his lateral agility. Antwan averaged 20 ppg and lead Tartan in assists as a junior. He has been a solid contributor for the Howard Pulley EYBL squad this spring and summer, averaging 4.4 ppg and 3.1 rpg while shooting 48% from the field. Despite his size, Antwan is always fighting for rebounds and gets after loose balls. Kimmons will once again make Tartan a major threat in the state during his senior year.

18. Bennett Otto- 6'4 2019 SG, Champlin Park, Howard Pulley
Another talented sharp shooter in the 2019 class, Bennett Otto stepped up big for Champlin park as a junior. On a team that lost most of their rotation from a stacked team the previous season, Bennett became a 16.5 ppg player. He also averaged 3.4 apg. The college offered football player is a talented athlete with solid size for a shooting guard. Playing with the Howard Pulley EYBL team, Bennett has averaged 5.6 ppg off the bench. Bennett's play has earned him his first basketball offers, with more likely to come during his senior year.
College Committed: Augustana

19. Jalen Dearring- 6'1 2019 PG, Minnetonka, 44 Elite
Jalen is an intelligent point guard who saw great improvement during his junior season. He grew physically and skillfully as he became the go-to man for a rebuilding Minnetonka team. Jalen averaged 17.2 ppg, 2.6 apg, 2.3 rpg, and 1.4 spg as a junior. He showed off his greatly improved shooting ability, shooting 41% from three point land. His older brother is a former Wisconsin Badger basketball player, so Jalen has had a mentor to teach him the game growing up. If Jalen continues to improve, he will be a major threat for the state of Minnesota as a senior.
Schools of Interest: UCF, LaSalle, and Long Beach State among others.

20. Charlie Gorres- 6'5 2019 SF, Park of Cottage Grove, Minnesota Fury
Battling with injuries during his junior season, Charlie Gorres still managed to have a productive season for Park of Cottage Grove. The versatile Gorres averaged 20.2 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 5.1 apg, and 3.1 bpg, stuffing the stat sheet. Charlie can score on all three levels, showing off an improved jumpshot this past season, and can also produce for his teammates. Fully healthy as a senior, Gorres will look to make a run in the playoffs, and continue to put up big numbers.
